1. Reading Skills
In order to be successful in 3rd grade, students should be able to read at a level that is appropriate for their grade. This includes being able to read fluently, understand what they are reading, and answer comprehension questions.
2. Writing Skills
In order to be successful in 3rd grade, students should be able to write at a level that is appropriate for their grade. This includes being able to write complete sentences, use correct grammar and spelling, and write about a variety of topics.
3. Mathematics Skills
In order to be successful in 3rd grade, students should be able to do basic mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. They should also be able to solve simple word problems and understand basic fractions and decimals.
4. Science Skills
In order to be successful in 3rd grade, students should be able to understand basic concepts in earth science, life science, and physical science. They should also be able to answer questions about how living things interact with their environment, what atoms and molecules are made of, and how energy is transferred.
5. Social Studies Skills
In order to be successful in 3rd grade, students should be able to understand basic concepts about the United States government and history. They should also be able to answer questions about geographic features of the United States and other countries around the world.
6. Language Arts Skills
In order to be successful in 3rd grade, students should be able to understand and use common words and phrases in both spoken and written English. They should also be able to read and listen to stories aloud, identify the main idea and supporting details, and write paragraphs about a topic using proper grammar.
7. Fine Arts and Creative Writing skills
In order to be successful in 3rd grade, students should develop skills in creative writing and fine arts subjects such as music, art, and theater. This may include writing poems or stories, drawing pictures or sketches, or composing songs or melodies.
8. Physical Education skills
In order to be successful in 3rd grade, students should develop basic physical education skills such as running long distances, jumping up and down on one foot multiple times consecutively, or throwing a ball overhand for a long distance. They should also be able to participate in simple team sports such as kickball or soccer.
