1. Coupling devices
The coupling devices are one of the most important components in a truck, not only to keep the trailer securely attached to the tractor but also to ensure that the vehicle is able to move safely with an evenly distributed load at all times. Inspection of all parts should be done on a regular basis, including the fifth wheel height, kingpin and locking plates, air lines, electrical connections and safety chains.
2. Exhaust system
The exhaust system is critical to the safe operation of a truck since it carries away any toxic gases from the engine and prevents them from entering the cab or other areas of the worksite. Inspect all parts including mufflers, catalytic converters and pipes for damage; check for leaks; ensure that all fittings are properly secured and make sure that there are no obstructions in place.
3. Truck frame
Inspect your truck frame on a regular basis to ensure that it is free from damage or distortion. Check welds for cracks or faults; look for rust or corrosion; examine mounting points for wear and tear; and ensure that all parts are properly aligned.
4. Fuel system
The fuel system must be checked for leaks, whether it is a diesel or gasoline engine. Make sure to check the lines, pump, filters and injectors as well as any other components which can cause problems if they become clogged or damaged. All fittings should be secure and there should be no evidence of tampering with the fuel level gauge calibration
5. Turn signals
All turn signals need to be in good working order in order to alert other drivers when you are turning or changing lanes on the road. Inspect all lights including brake lamps, tail lamps, head lamps and special indicators for loads (if required). Make sure to check the wiring and make necessary repairs if required
6. Brake lamps
Inspect the brake lamps to ensure that they are in proper working condition. Check all bulbs, sockets and wiring harnesses for any damage or faults. Make sure to adjust the brakes if necessary in order to make sure that they can be seen clearly by other drivers
7. Tail lamps
Tail lamps are an important safety feature on a vehicle. Inspect these regularly to make sure that all lights are functioning correctly and check wiring and connectors for any signs of wear or damage. Also, make sure that the lens covers are not cracked or broken as this could result in reduced visibility at night
8. Head lamps
Head lamps must be checked regularly to ensure that they are adjusted properly so as not to blind other drivers. Check bulbs, lenses and wiring for any signs of wear or damage. Also make sure that the lens covers are not cracked or broken as this could result in reduced visibility at night
9. Lamps on projecting loads (if applicable)
If you are transporting a load which has projecting parts, it is important to make sure that these areas are clearly marked with visible lamps so that other drivers can see them from a reasonable distance away. Inspect all lamps regularly to ensure they are working correctly and securely mounted
10. Safe loading
It is essential to check your vehicle’s loading capacity before beginning any trip as an overloaded truck can be dangerous both for yourself and other drivers on the road. Check to ensure that the load is evenly distributed and securely fastened and make sure to check braking power before beginning your journey
11. Steering mechanism
The steering mechanism is a vital part of any vehicle and must be inspected on a regular basis to ensure that it is in good condition. Check for loose nuts, bolts and other components; ensure that the turning radius is correct; and adjust if necessary to prevent any sudden swerves or loss of control
12. Suspension
The suspension must be checked regularly to ensure that it is free from wear and tear. Look for improper alignment or misaligned components; check the shocks and springs for leaks or damage; and make sure that all mounting points are secure. All of these measures will help to reduce fatigue while driving as well as improve handling and safety on the road
13. Tires
Regularly checking your tire pressure is essential in order to ensure that they are correctly inflated at all times. This helps with fuel efficiency, as well as reducing chances of having a blowout due to an underinflated tire. Make sure to use a gauge when checking pressures, and adjust accordingly if needed
