1. Tent and Stakes
When it comes to backyard camping, tents are essential for providing protection from the elements. Choose a tent that is waterproof and can withstand strong winds. Make sure you have enough stakes to securely anchor the tent to the ground. You may want to bring along a tarp as well for extra protection in case of rain.
2. Sleeping Bags or Blankets
Bring along sleeping bags or blankets to keep everyone warm during the night, and don't forget pillows for added comfort. Make sure everyone has enough space for a comfortable sleep.
3. Flashlight and Extra Batteries
Having a flashlight is important in case you need to find your way around the backyard in the dark. Bring extra batteries as well, just in case they run out during the night.
4. Camping Chairs
Comfortable camping chairs are essential for sitting around a campfire or eating dinner outdoors. Choose ones that are lightweight and easy to carry around, so you can move them from spot to spot as needed.
5. Cooler with Ice and Food Storage Containers
Make sure to bring a cooler packed with ice, as well as food storage containers to keep the food fresh throughout your camping trip. Don’t forget plates, bowls, cups and eating utensils too!
6. Portable Grill and Fuel/Charcoal
A portable grill is a must-have for backyard camping. Make sure you have enough fuel or charcoal on hand to get the fire going, as well as matches or a lighter if needed. You may also want to bring along some skewers for roasting marshmallows or hot dogs over the fire!
7. Eating Utensils and Dishes
Bring along eating utensils and dishes for everyone in your group so that you don’t have to use disposable plates and cutlery. Don't forget napkins, too!
8. Portable Cooking Stove, Cookware, Pots and Pans and Cups
If you plan on cooking inside the tent or outside over a campfire, make sure to bring a portable cooking stove as well as cookware such as pots, pans, cups and spoons.

Make sure everyone has enough plates, bowls knives and forks so that they can eat comfortably outdoors without having to worry about washing up afterwards.
10. Garbage Bags and Container for Trash
Bring enough garbage bags to store all the trash you generate throughout your camping trip. A container for collecting and storing the bags is also a great idea.
11. Matches/Lighter/Firewood
Matches, a lighter and firewood are essential for starting a campfire. Make sure to keep the firewood dry and away from the tent at all times for safety.
