1. Sunscreen
Sunscreen is an essential item for adults when spending time at the beach. Not only does it protect from sunburns and skin damage, but it also helps protect against skin cancer. Make sure to apply sunscreen generously with a broad spectrum SPF of at least 15 and reapply every 2 hours after excessive sweating or swimming.
2. Beach umbrella or tent
Having shade available when spending time at the beach can be a true lifesaver, especially during peak hours of the day when the sun is at its hottest. Not only does it provide relief from the heat, but also protection against UV rays and wind. Choose an umbrella with UPF 50+ to ensure maximum protection while still getting some vitamin D.
3. Waterproof bag/container
A waterproof bag or container is essential for keeping items such as phone and other electronics dry, sand free and protected from water damage when visiting the beach. Make sure you opt for one that is 100% waterproof and has a secure closure system to keep your items safe from any unexpected tides or splashes
4. Reusable water bottle
Staying hydrated is key when spending time outdoors, especially at the beach since it can get quite hot depending on the season and location. Invest in a sturdy and reusable water bottle to take with you each time you head out. This will help reduce single-use plastic waste as well as keep your beverages cold while enjoying the sun and sand.
5. Sunglasses and Hat
Protect your eyes from harsh sunlight by wearing sunglasses with UV protection lenses while under direct exposure to the sun’s rays. A wide brimmed hat can also help provide additional shade for the face so that you can stay comfortable during long days at the beach.
6. Change of clothes or cover up
It’s always a good idea to bring an extra set of clothes or a cover up in case you get wet while swimming, playing beach volleyball or simply walking along the shore. This way you can change into something dry and avoid getting chilled when the sun starts to go down.
7. Sandals
When headed out to the beach it’s important to wear a pair of comfortable sandals that are made for water and protect your feet from sharp rocks, shells, and other elements found on the ocean floor. Choose ones with straps around your ankles for better stability if you plan on doing any water activities such as snorkeling or surfing.
8. Snacks and beverages
Bring a few snacks and beverages to have available throughout the day at the beach. This will help keep you fueled up so that you can make the most of your time on the shore without having to take a break in order to go buy food or drinks. Choose items that are lightweight, non-perishable, healthy and easy to transport.
9. Beach towels
Bringing along a couple of beach towels will provide an extra layer of comfort while lounging around under the sun or drying off after swimming. They also come in handy when cleaning off sand from your feet before taking them back with you after a long day at the beach.
10. First aid kit
It's always wise to bring a first aid kit with you when spending time outdoors. This will help minimize any potential injuries or illnesses while on the beach, ensuring that everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience.
11. Insect Repellent
Insects can be quite annoying when spending time outdoors and at the beach, so bring an insect repellent to ward off any pesky critters. Look for one with natural ingredients such as citronella or lemon eucalyptus which are both effective and non-toxic.
12. Beach games such as Frisbee, volleyball and badminton
Beach games are always a great way to have fun and stay active while at the beach. Pack some Frisbees, volleyballs or badminton rackets for an extra dose of entertainment. You can also bring along a portable net in case you want to take it up a notch and play real beach volleyball.
