1. Baby Nursery/Bedroom
When bringing a newborn home, it’s important to have a safe and comfortable environment prepared for them. This includes having the nursery/bedroom properly set up with a crib, changing table, dresser, glider or rocking chair, bookshelves, and any other necessary items. Parents should also ensure their nursery/bedroom is free from any potential hazards.
2. Clothing
Parents will need to have a variety of clothing items for their newborn, such as onesies, sleepers, hats, and booties. Be sure to purchase enough clothes for your baby in all sizes so that you’ll be prepared when they grow out of each size.
3. Diaper Bag
This is an essential item that parents should have on hand to take with them everywhere they go with the baby. The diaper bag should include diapers, wipes, changing pad or blanket, bibs, extra clothing, toys, bottles and formula (if bottle-feeding), pacifiers (if desired), and any other items you may need.
4. Car Seat
It is important for parents to have a properly installed car seat for their infant before bringing them home from the hospital. Make sure to read all of the safety guidelines and watch instructional videos if needed, in order to ensure that the car seat is correctly installed.
5. Stroller
If breastfeeding, make sure to invest in a comfortable nursing pillow and a few nursing bras. If bottle-feeding, parents should have a variety of bottles, nipples and formula on hand.
6. Feeding Supplies
After bringing your newborn home, you’ll need to be prepared for regular baths and sponge baths. Gather all the necessary items such as baby washcloths, towels, bath tubs or basins, gentle soaps and shampoos, nail clippers/files (for when they get older) and other essential items.
