1. Oral Language
This section assesses the student's ability to understand, participate in, and express their ideas through spoken language. Assessments may include evaluating their use of vocabulary, sentence structure, comprehension of questions, and ability to answer questions.
2. Phonemic Awareness
This section assesses the student's ability to identify and manipulate sounds within words. Assessments may include evaluating their understanding of rhyming, alliteration, syllables, blending sounds together to form a word, and segmenting words into individual sounds.
3. Phonics
This section assesses the student's ability to understand and use letter-sound relationships. Assessments may include evaluating their understanding of consonants, vowels, blends, digraphs, silent letters, and syllabication rules.
4. Reading Comprehension
This section assesses the student's ability to demonstrate an understanding of the written text. Assessments may include evaluating their literary analysis, summarizing skills, story recall, and knowledge of facts and details from stories read.
5. Sight Words
This section assesses the student's ability to recognize, read, and spell common words that cannot be decoded by phonics. Assessments may include evaluating their recognition of the frequency of occurrence and context clues associated with sight words.
6. Vocabulary
This section assesses the student's understanding and use of new words. Assessments may include evaluating their comprehension of definitions, usage in sentences, synonyms, antonyms, and knowledge of multiple meanings.
7. Grammar and Mechanics
This section assesses the student's ability to use language correctly. Assessments may include evaluating their understanding of punctuation, capital letters, verb tenses, parts of speech and sentence structure.
8. Mathematics
This section assesses the student's ability to demonstrate and apply mathematical concepts. Assessments may include evaluating their understanding of number recognition, counting, addition, subtraction, shapes, and measurements.
9. Science
This section assesses the student's ability to demonstrate an understanding of scientific concepts. Assessments may include evaluating their knowledge of physical and life sciences, including earth science, space science, ecology, biology and chemistry.
10. Social Studies
This section assesses the student's ability to demonstrate an understanding of social studies concepts. Assessments may include evaluating their knowledge of geography, world cultures, history and government.
