1. Diapers:
A good rule of thumb is to have around 24 diapers for each day you expect the baby to be home. You will also want some extras on hand in case of accidents.
2. Wipes:
Wipes are a necessary part of taking care of a baby and can be used for everything from cleaning up spit-up to wiping down the changing table.
3. Clothing:
It is a good idea to have at least one week's worth of clothing for your new baby, as they will likely grow out of clothes quickly in those early months. Be sure to include some comfortable sleepwear, too.
4. Blankets:
It is important to keep your baby warm, so having a few blankets ready is a must. You can use them to swaddle the baby, keep them covered in the car seat, or make them a cozy spot on the floor to play.
5. Pacifiers and bottles:
Some babies take to pacifiers right away, while others do not prefer them. If you plan on using bottles, you will need to have formula or breast milk on hand as well as bottles and nipples.
6. Car seat or stroller:
In most states, it is now law that all babies must be in a car seat until they are at least 1 year old and weigh 20 pounds or more. A stroller is also a handy item to have for taking the baby out and about.
7. Infant formula or baby food:
If you are not breastfeeding, you will need to purchase infant formula or baby food. Be sure to check the expiration dates on these items and stock up when there is a sale.
8. Nursery furniture:
If you are not lucky enough to receive furniture as gifts, you will need to purchase a crib, changing table, and other essentials for the nursery.
9. Nightlights or other ambient lighting:
Babies often sleep better in dark rooms, but it can be difficult to see what you are doing when changing a diaper in the middle of the night without any light source. A few nightlights should do the trick!
10. Pacifier clips:
These handy little clips help keep pacifiers from getting lost if they fall out of your child's mouth. They are a lifesaver!
